Q1:What is the climate like in Kusatsu?
A1.Located at 1200 meters above the sea level, the hill town's average yearly temperature is about 7°C. The average temperature stays at around 20°C even in August, which has a few hot days with temperatures over 25°C. The nice, cool summer is the reason that Kusatsu has long been such a popular resort destination. Please refer to the following meteorological data.

Q2:When is the best time to view autumn leaves?
A2:Just a 15 minute drive from the central Kusatsu-onsen is Kusatsu Shirane where you can enjoy the scenic view. The area, belonging to Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, provides vivid autumnal leaf coloration like a brocade picture from mid-September to mid-October.

Q3:When is the best time to view cherry blossoms?
A3:The blossoms can be seen around the roadside stations ‘Michi-no-Eki ’ etc. i early May every year.

Besides cherry blossoms, the following flowers and alpine plants are also famous in Kusatsu Onsen and Kusatsu Shirane.
Alpine roses (Season: early May - late May; Location: Shirane shrine etc.)
Azaleas (Season: late May - mid Jun; Location: around the roadside stations ‘Michi-no-Eki ’ etc.)
Dicentra clump (Season: early Jul - mid/late Jul; Location: 40min walking from Shirane-Sancho Sta.)
Gentians (Season: mid Sep - late Sep; Location: around Mt. Shirane Rest House.)
